The Bigeye poacher (''Bathyagonus pentacanthus'', also known commonly as the Bigeye starsnout or the Bigeye starsnout poacher〔(Common names for ''Bathyagonus pentacanthus'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕) is a fish in the family Agonidae (poachers).〔(''Bathyagonus pentacanthus'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by Charles Henry Gilbert in 1890.〔Gilbert, C. H., 1890 (1 July) (1623 ) ''A preliminary report on the fishes collected by the steamer Albatross on the Pacific coast of North America during the year 1889, with descriptions of twelve new genera and ninety-two new species.'' Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 13 (no. 797): 49-126.〕 It is a marine, subtropical fish which is known from the Gulf of Alaska to southern California, USA, in the northern Pacific Ocean. It dwells at a depth range of 110-910 metres, and inhabits soft bottoms.
